Officially Cool

Wednesday, May 16th, 2007

According to the recently updated Credit, Press & Inspirations page on the CONE Sutro Forest site, this is the “coolest” CONE Sutro Forest blog. Hooray!

A stickler for detail might point out that this is also the only CONE Sutro Forest blog, which it could be argued undercuts the awesomeness of being the coolest, but I’ll have none of that.

It’s official: We’re cool. 😎

#sutro on EFNet

Friday, May 4th, 2007

We seriously need a chat environment for this thing. I’m kind of an IRC n00b, but I’ve created a channel called #sutro on EFnet. If you know how to use an IRC client (mIRC is popular on Windows; I use a program called Colloquy on the Mac), it’s easy to log in to an EFnet server and join the discussion.

I’m looking into putting a web-based IRC client on the blog’s Live Chat page, but in the meantime, you can download and install an IRC client, or you can use one of the free IRC web gateways, like the one at IRCatWork.com. However you log in, you should be able to use the following to enter the chatroom:

Nickname: whatever you want (though if someone else is already using it, you’ll need to choose a different one)

Server: irc.freenode.net (or substitute a server “close” to you in network terms)

Channel: #sutro

See you there.

Greetings!

I’m the user ‘elanus’ on the CONE Sutro Forest birdcam. I think the system is really fun, but I’ve been frustrated by the difficulty of sharing thoughts and ideas with other users. This blog is an attempt to address that.

I’m just a user of the birdcam; I have no official connection with its creators or maintainers.

Please look around, and let me know what you think. Anyone can register as a user here and leave comments on the posted articles. If you’re a user of the Sutro birdcam, you can also get ‘author’ status, allowing you to post your own articles in the blog. See the blog’s About page for details on how to do that.

Thanks!
